Race Time

May 2013

Since I did the 3 Day walk last October I have been on this whole fitness kick.  I have lost around 30 lbs since last year.  I take a boot camp class 3 days a week and along with my walking, I have been starting to run.

Marshall did his first race called The Red Bud Run.  It's a 1/4 mile sprint.  It was such a big deal for him because it was his very first race.  Plus he tends to be very insecure doing activities where lots of people are watching him, so we were so proud that he tried!  He gave it his best shot and he had fun doing it!  The first thing he said when he finished was, "Well at least I didn't come in last!"  We reminded him over and over that a race isn't about winning.  It's about challenging yourself and just doing the best that you can while having fun doing it!

A few days after Marshall's race Jaylee ran the Bloomin' Kids Mile at the Apple Blossom Festival.  She did a great job!  She ran the mile in 9 minutes and 38 seconds.  She was really nervous at first because there were so many girls running, I told her she didn't have to, but she really wanted to give it a try.

Then a couple of weeks later Jaylee and I ran our very first 5K together.  My first 5K was the mud run, which I ran but also had obstacles as well.  This was mine and Jaylee's first true 5K race.  We finished in 35 minutes, which is pretty good!  There were a few times where we walked, but mainly ran the whole 3.1 miles.

We supported each other along the way, and it was nice to have her as my running partner.

It's so important to me to teach my children to be healthy and to teach them good habits now so that they can live a long and comfortable life.  Running a race isn't easy, and it's not comfortable.... it's pretty hard.  But when you cross that finish line, it's one of the best feelings.  I want them to know that life is that way.  It's not always easy and comfortable, it's hard.  But just because something is hard, it's not worth giving up.  To be healthy and strong you have to work hard, and it feels good to be a good influence in their lives.

I look forward to running many races with my kids...

Peace and love.....
